High voter turnout as Kajiado Central picks next MP
Voters started arriving as early as 6am when polling stations opened, eager to cast their vote for their preferred candidate.
Security was also boosted in each of the 87 polling stations, with each station getting two police officers.
There were, however, cases where some voters claimed that their names were missing from the voter register, though intervention by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) rectified the situation, allowing them to vote.
Polling stations are expected to close at 5pm to pave way for tallying of votes that will take place at the Maasai Technical Training Institute.
Security at the tallying centre has also been improved, with twenty police officers assigned to man the centre.
MAINTAIN PEACE
Sunday, IEBC Commissioner Abdulahi Sharawe said that the winner in the Kajiado Central by election will be known by latest 10pm.
Speaking after casting his vote, ODM candidate Elijah Memusi said: “The exercise has started very well. The issues are minimal and have been sorted out.”
He further asked his supporters to maintain peace regardless of the outcome of the election.
On his part, Tutui exuded confidence in winning the elections as he also called for calm during the voting process and announcement of results.
In his address to the media moments after casting his vote at Il-Bilisl Boarding primary, the Former Kajiado Central MP and the now Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery assured of security during the entire process as the residents pick their next MP.
