Homa Bay: 42-year-old suspected chicken thief beaten to death by mob

A 42 year- old man was on Wednesday stoned to death by members of the public over the accusations of stealing chicken at Kisenye Village, Homa Bay.

Moi Gembe met his fate after irate villagers caught him pants down with five chicken that he has stolen from three homes in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Daniel Dwele Magadi, the area chief confirmed the incident said the owners of the chicken laid a trap for the deceased, trailed him and caught him with the five fowls stashed in a sack.

The victim then raised alarm with an angry mob descending on the suspect with stones and other crude weapons.

The area chief went on to say that chicken theft has been on the rise in the region with a number of locals saying they were counting losses thanks to a gang of chicken thieves around Sindo Township.

At the same time, he cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, saying that suspects should be handed over to the police.

The deceased’s body was moved to Suba Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.
