Homa Bay County Tops HIV Prevalence Rate In The Country

In the report, the ministry of health indicated that Kenya has the 4th highest HIV prevalence rate in the world by 2013.

 

According to the report, Homa Bay County was leading in the number of new infections where about 12,300 people were infected with HIV last year.

 

This was closely followed by Kisumu standing at about 12.5% of new infections followed by Siaya with 11.9% and Migori at 8.2%.

 

Wajir has the least number of new infections with only 2 reported incidents in 2013.

 

The report however showed a drop in the number of infections with the number of new infections standing at 88,620 from 95,000 in 2007.

 

By 2013, at least 1.6 million Kenyans were living with the virus with 13,000 of those cases being children under the age 13.

 

The figure represents about 25.7 % of prevalence cases of the Virus in the country.
