Homa Bay: Drama over Ksh.3M bribe allegations to pass county budget

There was drama at the Homa Bay County Assembly after Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) traded accusations over an alleged Ksh.3 million bribe from the County Executive.

Some nominated MCAs alleged that their elected counterparts were paid the money to influence the passing of the the 2018/2019 county budget.

It is alleged that some elected MCAs had been holed up in a Kisumu hotel where they were allegedly bribed and it was then that the nominated MCAs stormed the meeting.

In a heated debate that almost turned chaotic at the Assembly, nominated MCA Sophie Koweje told the Assembly that her nominated colleagues were incited to disrupt the meeting held at a Kisumu hotel back in June.

She even named those she believed were behind the chaos.

Ruma Kaksingri ward MCA Eliphalet Osuri wanted to introduce a motion to have his nominated colleagues summoned before the House over gross misconduct.

This comes amid a fall-out in Parliament over alleged bribery claims to influence the defeat of the sugar report on Thursday last week.

The debate was adjourned to Wednesday but during proceedings presided over by Gem East MCA Elias Orondo who was the acting speaker, some members staged a walkout forcing the case to be adjourned again.
