Homa Bay: Man allegedly kills wife, dumps body in thicket

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband at Kopiyo village in Homa Bay County.

The body of Alice Atieno was found dumped in a thicket with visible injuries on her body, showing that she had been strangled.

Area Assistant Chief Margaret Otonde said she received information from a village elder, Martha Okuku, that there was a mutilated body of a woman hidden in the thicket.

The chief said it is suspected that the woman was killed by her husband, 27-year-old Steve Juma Adoyo with whom she had separated with before re-uniting recently.

According to Ms. Otonde, the couple separated a while back due to family wrangles but the two reportedly agreed to reunite at the woman’s home at Gem Wakeru in Rangwe constituency where he is suspected to have killed her.

The area administrator said the suspect later attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison but was rescued by his mother who rushed him to Homa-Bay County Referral Hospital.

The chief added that the motive behind the killing could not be immediately established as the couple’s relatives could not explain issues surrounding the relationship between the two.

The woman’s body was taken to Homa Bay County Hospital morgue while the suspect is still at large as he is reported to have gone missing from his hospital bed.
