Homa Bay MCA detained for allegedly assaulting County Assembly clerk

A Homa Bay court has detained a Member of the County Assembly pending investigations into allegations of assault against the assembly clerk.

Kojwach Ward MCA Joan Ogada was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly assaulting clerk Daniel Kaudo in his office.

Appearing before Homa Bay Law Court Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu on Thursday, Ms. Ogada was detained until Friday when she will be arraigned to take plea.

Magistrate Obutu gave the directive after police requested the court for more time to conclude investigations.

Corporal Justus Weduve, in an affidavit seen by Citizen Digital, argued that the case requires tight evidence which must be adduced in court.

The Investigating Officer stated that he was also probing malicious damage of property and creating disturbance in a manner likely to breach peace in the Homa Bay county Assembly.

According to the corporal, the clerk’s office had been broken into and several county assembly property of unknown value is consequently missing.

He further argued that the embattled MCA, if released, will be a threat to prosecution witnesses some of whom include the County Assembly staff members.
