Homa Bay MCAs accused of assaulting Speaker Ayoo released on bond

Seven Homa Bay Members of the County Assembly accused of assaulting Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo were on Monday released on a personal bond of Ksh.250,000 and a surety of the same.

Kisumu High Court Judge Justice Fred Ochieng released the seven, who have been under detention at Kodiaga Maximum prison, with a set of conditions.

The seven are; Evans Marieba (Gwasi North Ward), Phelimon Onditi (Kagan Ward), Dan Were (Kakelo Kokwanyo Ward), Paul Wamunga (North Karachuonyo Ward) Geoffrey Juma Anyango (Kabondo West Ward), Paul Adika (Lambwe Ward) and Peter Kaula (Wang’chieng Ward).

The MCAs were on Friday remanded for 14 days following a successful application by the prosecution before a Kisumu Magistrates Court seeking more time to conclude their investigations.

The ward representatives, who presented themselves at the Nyanza Regional CID Headquarters in Kisumu on Friday morning are accused of assaulting Speaker Ayoo during session proceedings.

During the October incident, the Assembly sergeants saved Speaker Ayoo from the hands of irate MCAs who allegedly pounced on her with kicks and blows accusing her of being biased.
