Homa Bay MCAs want Mbadi to apologise over qualification remarks

A section of nominated MCAs in the Homa Bay County Assembly have given ODM national chairman John Mbadi 48 hours to apologise over his statement that they have no academic qualifications.

The ultimatum comes only two days after Mbadi, speaking during a fundraiser at Sango Mixed Secondary School in Ndhiwa, said; “We have observed that the party nominated a number of MCAs who are not qualified to deliver services. Some MCAs were nominated because they were personal assistants to some party officials but they have no idea of their roles in the county assembly.”

Mbadi had further added that the ODM party would review the nomination rules of MCAs and do away with such unqualified leaders.

Led by Nerea Amondi Oketch, the MCAs now claim to be educated and were duly nominated to represent the interests of Homa Bay residents.

Amondi said the MCAs played a vital role in vote-hunting for the ODM party in the last general election, adding that the assembly has its own authority that can discredit non-performing MCAs.

“As women nominated MCAs in the County Assembly of Homa Bay, we are deeply angered by mheshimiwa Mbadi’s remarks. We’re giving him 48 hours, starting today, to apologise over his insults he made against us, failure to which we will take to the streets against him,” said Oketch.

The legislators also rubbished Mbadi’s claims, faulting him for forwarding their names if indeed he thought they were uneducated.

The nominated MCAs also stated that the statement made by the minority leader in the national assembly will haunt him until the next elections and that should he fail to apologize, they will campaign against him if he seeks another elective post in 2022.
