Homa Bay: Search for body of girl attacked by crocodile enters day four

The search for the body of a Class One pupil, who was attacked by a crocodile at River Kuja in Ndhiwa Constituency, Migori County last Friday has entered its fourth day.

The search exercise is being conducted by officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Homa Bay County Disaster Management, police officers and community members.

KWS Homa Bay Station Warden Grace Wendot said that the search will go on until the body is found.

“Veronica Achieng’ the minor, was attacked by a crocodile on Friday evening while fetching water from the river before attacking a 37-year-old man George Ochieng’ who was among those who were searching the body of the minor,” she said.

Ochieng’ escaped from the jaw of the reptile but sustained injuries on his right leg after he was rescued by the villagers.

The County Director of Disaster Management Eliud Onyango urged the community members living near water bodies to avoid invading wildlife habitat to reduce human-wildlife conflicts.
