Homa Bay Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo survives ouster bid yet again

It was a sigh of relief for Homa Bay Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo on Thursday after a court extended a stay order for her position in the county assembly.

The Labour and Relations court in Kisumu said the move is pending hearing and determination of the matter.

Justice Nduma Nderi cautioned the assembly clerk from interfering with the office of the Speaker.

“Any purported election of an acting Speaker is null and void,” the judge warned.

Speaker Ayoo has been under siege since last year when members of the county assembly even attempted to block her from accessing her office.

Some of them were even arrested and detained at Kodiaga Maximum prison.

They appeared in court on November 19, 2018 and were charged with assault.

The court later released them on a personal bond of Ksh.250,000 and a surety of the same.

However, acting Speaker Evans Marieba and the Leader of Majority Walter Muok, accused Ayoo of stage-managing the attack to gain public sympathy.
