Hope for top KCPE pupil Yusuf Aker after story airs on CitizenTV

Yusuf Aker who scored top marks in the KCPE 2019 exams will not be repeating Class 8 for failing to raise secondary school fees.

This is after well-wishers sprung to his aid after the heart-wrenching story was aired on CitizenTV on Thursday evening.

“We have just received a call from the Principal of Kapsabet Boys High School Kipchumba Maiyo after airing the plight of Yusuf Aker and he has pledged to pay school fees for the boy for the next four years,” Yvonne Okwara announced just minutes after telling his story.

Reports further indicate that Rtd. General Augustine Cheruiyot has offered to buy for the boy his uniforms, mattress and any other school material that is required.

Yusuf Aker had intimated that he dreamt of becoming a doctor so that he could help his community: his dream has been restored thanks to well-wishers.

Aker from Mokong’wo village in Tiaty, Baringo County had opted to repeat Class 8 after he missed a slot for all available sponsorship opportunities that would have enabled him to join the national school.

Citizen Digital had caught up with him and found him at his previous school sitting for a Kiswahili opening-term exam at the very spot where he sat his KCPE last year.

Tangulbei Primary School headteacher James Merinyang had expressed shock at seeing him in class last week despite the fact that he had topped the entire school in the national exam.

Aker lives with his grandmother, 82-year-old Chepisogei Lotegu, in a grass thatched house.

His father and nine other siblings were killed in a banditry attack on the border of Pokot and Samburu when he was just 3 years old.
