A hotel manager who is alleged to have shot and killed a matatu driver following an argument over parking space at Polyview Estate in Kisumu has been detained for seven days.

The suspect, Daniel Jaoko; who was the manager at Raygreen Hotel in Kisumu, was presented in court on a miscellaneous application where the prosecution sought for more time to complete investigations.

Senior Principal Magistrate Jocelyne Mitey allowed detectives seven days to conduct a further probe into the matter as they also await a postmortem report on the body of the deceased Coast Bus driver, Peter Otieno.

During the incident which occurred last Saturday at around 5am, the accused had allegedly parked his car on the estate’s drive way, blocking Otieno’s vehicle.

When the Coast Bus driver asked the hotel manager to pave the way for him, he allegedly drew a gun and fired twice in the air before shooting at him.

County Police Commander Benson Maweu said the victim was shot three times on the chest by the accused, who was at the estate to drop his girlfriend.

The suspect surrendered himself at Kondele Police Station where he was detained alongside his girlfriend.

His firearm had 15 rounds of ammunition with 42 more bullets being found after a search on his house.

The driver was confirmed dead at Avenue Hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
