House Committee approves Chebukati as IEBC chair

The National Assembly Legal Affairs Committee has approved the nomination of Wafula Chebukati as Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Committee also approved the nomination of six other persons as the commissioners of the electoral body.

In a report tabled on the floor of the House during a special sitting, the committee led by Njoroge Baiya also approved the nomination of former Archbishop of the Anglican Church Eilud Wabukhala as Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The report has received support from both the ruling Jubilee coalition and the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).

The special sitting will resume at 2:30 pm where the Members of Parliament will debate to adopt or reject the names.

Once the names are approved, they will be forwarded to President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointment.
