House help, daughter charged with theft of employers pistol

A middle-aged woman, who works as a house help in Muthaiga, Nairobi and her teenage daughter, were on Thursday, June 22, arraigned before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate, Martha Mutuku, for allegedly stealing a Berretta pistol, 15 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones and Ksh 450,000 from her employer.

It is alleged that on May 9, 2017, Dorcas Chepkemboi and her daughter, while at the Ridgeways Springs in Muthaiga, jointly stole from Chepkemoboi’s employer, Francis Mbugua, a pistol and rounds of ammunition valued at Ksh 155,000, mobile phones valued at Ksh 40,000 and the cash – Ksh 450,000; bringing the total value of stolen property to Ksh 645,000.

It is alleged Francis Mbugua had an emergency to tend to and left Chepkemboi and her daughter, who had both visited him, when the said property got lost.

The lost items were later recovered at a house in Kapsabet.

Chepkemboi and her daughter had pleaded guilty to the charges but later changed their plea to not guilty.

The suspects were released on Ksh 1 million bond each, with no alternative to cash bail.

The matter will be mentioned two weeks from June 22.
