How Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru spent his final moments with his son

Barely 24 hours before he met his sudden death in a grisly road accident, Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru spent time with his son who is a candidate for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

Dr. Gakuru hosted Alliance Boys High School KCSE candidates including his son, at his Runda Residence in Nairobi on Monday to encourage them as they sit their final exams.

Gakuru said a prayer for the candidates and wished them the best in their national exams.

“Together with All Candidates Countrywide, I tender best wishes from myself and also on behalf of County Government of Nyeri. May our dear Lord guide you through during this period,” the late Governor posted his message and images on Facebook.

On Sunday (November 5) he attended a Church service at PCEA Gathehu in Magutu Ward, Mathira where he also prayed for the candidates.

On Friday (November 3), Wahome Gakuru held a consultative meeting with Central Kenya, Nairobi and Isiolo Governors in Nanyuki, Laikipia, on the region’s economic progress and social advancement.

He was working on a plan to engage the national government to see the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway up to Nanyuki via Murang’a and Nyeri.

“This will open up our economic base as well as ease transport. This we trust will happen soon,” an optimistic Gakuru assured.

Wahome Gakuru died after he was involved in a grisly road accident in Kabati on the Thika-Kenol highway.

He was travelling to Nairobi for a talk show on Inooro TV.

The governor and his driver were rushed to Thika Level V Hospital and were set to be flown to Nairobi Hospital for further treatment.

The governor, however, succumbed to his injuries while receiving emergency treatment at the Thika Hospital.

His body has since been moved to the Lee Funeral Home.
