How the man who married two wives on the same day balances his family

Earlier in the week, a young Tom Mako from Kajiado County caused a stir on social media when he married his two wives on the same day.

The traditional wedding where the brides wore white gowns, has left many wondering how such a marriage came to be.

In a traditional setting, 27-year-old Tom would be said to have achieved the highest status in society but in a capitalist society however, he has become a topic of intense debate.

Meet Tom’s two wives; 23-year-old Elizabeth Silamoi who is the first wife and 25-year-old Joyce Tokoyian who is the second wife.

Tom has built each one of them a house in Kisajju, Kajiado County. Whatever is in Elizabeth’s Silamoi’s house is also found in Joyce Tokoyians’ house.

“I sleep in the house I feel like,” says Tom.

Interestingly, like a hunter in the wild, Tom met his two wives while herding.

Explaining to friends why he wanted to have a wedding with two brides on the same day, Tom says was was tough but luckily his family was understanding enough.

His second wife, Elizabeth Silamoi however says she hails from a polygamous home and she is the first born of a second wife.

As for Tom, it is a big family of seven, as the two wives also have two children each.

“Happy wives mean a happy life,” said Tom.

Tom now says that matters of the heart are very delicate and with love comes responsibilities but the three of them have opted to undertake very diligently despite its own challenges.
