Hundreds of motorists on the Kisumu-Nairobi road were stranded on Sunday at Ahero due to a traffic jam that lasted the better part of the morning.

Reports indicate that police were conducting an operation to apprehend some foreigners, which caused the traffic jam.

Police had previously apprehended suspects suspected of entering the country through the Kenya-Uganda border and traveling to an unknown destination.

According to a source who spoke to Ramogi FM, two of the suspects were apprehended at the Kisian area in Kisumu West sub-county.

The operation continued at Ahero junction, where one more suspect was apprehended.

It was established that the suspects were in a team of five and were travelling from the Busia border in a public service vehicle.

Kisumu County police commander Samuel Anampiu confirmed that the foreigners of Pakistan origin were arrested following the two-day raid.

He said a multi-agency team comprising of the Anti – terrorism Police Unit  (ATPU) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted the operation, acting on intelligence reports indicating presence of foreigners in Kisumu.

The police boss said it is too early to declare the foreigners are terrorists but added that interrogations are underway to ascertain their mission in the country.
