Human rights lobby want Governor Mandago barred over graft

Humans rights agency, Centre for Human Rights Democracy (CHRD), wants the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to block Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandago, from contesting in the August 8 General Election over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

Kipkorir Ng’etich, a CHRD officer, said that they wrote to EACC to investigate the UasinGishu Governor together with Alex Tolgos of ElgeyoMarakwet and CleophasLagat of Nandi.

“There are complaints from the locals that governors from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi and Trans Nzoia have misappropriated public funds and abused offices they hold,” said Mr Ng’etich.

He said that corruption goes against the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya and anyone accused of graft must not be cleared to contest for any post.
