Hundreds of Nyamira residents donate blood, end shortage

Hundreds of Nyamira residents turned up at Huduma Centre in Nyamira Town to donate blood marking an end to the acute blood shortage in Nyamira Referral Hospital.

County Health director Jack Magara had on Friday called on individuals within the ages of 18 to 70 to voluntarily donate blood.

Magara directed health officials to set up various blood donation booths at Huduma Centre for three days.

According to records from the blood donation booths, 78 blood units were donated within the three days.

Speaking during the ceremony to mark the end of the three-day initiative, Dr Magara thanked the individuals who voluntarily donated blood and called on Kenyans to emulate Nyamira Residents, emphasizing that most fatal road accidents are experienced during festive seasons therefore there is need to have sufficient blood in health facilities.

“Although we have not attained our target which was 100 blood units, we are sure that the much we have collected will come in handy in saving the lives of victims of road accidents,” he remarked.
