HURUMA UPDATE: 49 confirmed dead, collapse site declared safe

The scene of the collapsed building in Huruma that left 49 people dead has now been declared safe after search and rescue operations were terminated on Saturday.

Members of the public were on Sunday allowed to visit and view the scene after all bodies and those found alive were recovered from the rubble after the incident that occurred nearly ten days ago.

Houses next to the collapsed building are now set to be demolished, as doing so earlier would have posed a threat to the rescue operations that were ongoing at the Huruma scene.

Tenants have already vacated the buildings that are among of those declared unfit to live in and earmarked for demolition as tenants in other buildings were given a one-week grace period.
