Jakakimba responds after ODM disowned him over Zimbabwe violence claims

Besieged former Migori senatorial aspirant Silas Jakakimba has hit out at ODM party for claiming that he is not part of the Raila Odinga secretariat.

This comes hours after ODM party Executive Director, Oduor Ong’wen, in a statement to newsrooms, disowned reports that Jakakimba’s trips to Harare, Zimbabwe, were on behalf of the party or opposition leader Odinga.

In a tweet on Tuesday evening, Jakakimba stated that he is a life member of ODM but has never been an employee of the party.

He lashed out at Mr. Ong’wen saying he does not answer to him “and therefore I will not grace his utterly MISPLACED statement with a response.”

“Oduor must know from today that Silas Jakakimba is formally engaged at The Raila Odinga Secretariat, which has elaborate and efficient structures including but not limited to a highly efficient Communication Department. It’s not his province to comment on issues he has no idea about.”

Ong’wen was trying to distance the party from Jakakimba who is currently embroiled in claims that he was the mastermind behind the post-election violence that has rocked Zimbabwe after their General Election.

“ODM wishes to state that Mr. Jakakimba travelled to Harare on his own volition and was neither representing the party or the party leader,” said Ong’wen in a statement.

“We want to categorically state that the party nor the office of the party leader sent any one or any representatives to Harare either to witness or on observer mission in the general election.”
