I am better placed to win 2017 presidential elections – Wetangula

Fork Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has called on CORD co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and coalition leader Raila Odinga to support his presidential bid in the 2017 elections.

The CORD co-principal said that of the three coalition partners, he is better placed to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the coming elections, adding that this will only be possible if he is backed by the entire coalition.

“I have seen the way President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto are running the country’s economy down the drain and I am ready to rectify that,” he said.

“If CORD disintegrates today, however, we will give Jubilee a direct ticket to the presidency. I urge my fellow principals to support my bid when the time comes to pick coalition’s flag bearer,” said Wetangula.

The pronouncement throws into disarray the coalition’s future coming just days after Wiper Democratic Movement members threatened to walk out of CORD if Kalonzo Musyoka is not picked as the coalition’s flag bearer in the next elections.

Wiper Secretary General Hassan Omar said that an MoU signed ahead of the 2013 elections indicated that Raila was to be a one-term president adding that Kalonzo should be given the chance to run for president under Mombasa senator Hassan Omar says CORD coalition principals need to meet urgently and iron out the controversy surrounding coalition flag bearer in 2017 general election.

He however stated that the matter has no effect on the unity of the coalition noting that the matter will be raised during CORD’s meeting scheduled for later in the year.

Echoing the sentiments during an address in Kitui on Saturday, Kalonzo encouraged Wiper supporters to have faith that the coalition partners will give him the chance to deliver victory in 2017.

The CORD co-principal was making a reference to sentiments by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, Senator David Musila, Senator Johnson Muthama and a host of MPs who had stated that Kalonzo’s 2017 presidential bid was unstoppable.
