I am not running Siaya County Gov’t – Oburu Odinga

Nominated MP Dr Oburu Odinga has dismissed claims that he is interfering with the operations and plans of the Siaya County Executive Committee.

Gem lawmaker and his Bondo counterpart Gideon Ochanda have on several occasions accused Dr Oburu of controlling the operations of the county government of Siaya due to his close relationship with Governor Rasanga.

However, Oburu has reiterated that like any other resident of the county, he is entitled to publicly participate in matters Siaya County and give his opinion on the way the devolved government should manage public funds.

“How can an outsider control a whole governor of Siaya? I am just a resident of Siaya, I can only advise on governance or leadership,” said Oburu.

Oburu, who was speaking at a campaign rally in Central Sakwa ward, urged leaders in the county to stop playing propaganda politics and instead focus on development and selling their manifestos to the electorate for fair competition.

Accompanying the lawmaker, Siaya Deputy Governor Wilson Ouma said MPs can only advise the county executives but decisions are solely made by the County Executive Committees.

“No one can make decisions for us in the county, the projects that we initiate and implement in Siaya are projects that we discuss with the people,” said the deputy governor.
