I did well in the presidential debate, Trump says

Republican U.S. presidential nominee Donald Trump said he was happy with his performance against Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Monday (September 26) in the first of a series of televised debates that could prove crucial to who wins the White House.

Trump defended his previous doubts over whether Barack Obama was, in fact, born in the United States and said he was proud his questions led to the president producing his birth certificate.

Asked about the reason for not criticising Hillary Clinton’s husband and former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Trump said there was no need to do that to perform “well” during the debate said he didn’t want to do that out of respect for Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea.

The debate, the first of three face-to-face matchups between the two candidates, was held as opinion polls show a tight race between Clinton, a former Secretary of State, and Trump, six weeks before the November 8 election.
