I have not refused to allocate land to KDF Governor Timamy

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has dismissed allegations that he has refused to allocate a 10-square kilometer parcel of land in Panda Nguo, Lamu County to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

In a statement to newsrooms, Timamy dismissed the reports as propaganda, accusing his political opponents of playing petty with a sensitive issue such as security.

“Lamu is not a kingdom where I can make a unilateral decision on such a weighty matter, I have to involve stakeholders in the area as well as land institutions because there are procedures to be followed,” he stated.

Earlier this week, Coast leaders accused Timamy of failing to take into account the interest of Lamu people by objecting the setting up of a KDF base in the area.

It is alleged that the Governor raised concerns that some of the indigenous people in the area risk eviction.

Lamu Deputy Governor Erick Mugo called on politicians to keep off the matter so as not to destabilize the county government.

Timamy assured that his government was committed to ensuring improved security in the county.
