I killed my father because he fenced my shamba, 19yr old tells court

A 19-year-old man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges implicating him with the death of his father over land dispute two years ago.

Peter Kipkurui Kipyegon is said to have committed the offence on June 11, 2017 at Seguton Location in Koibatek sub-county when he was 17 years old.

“I agree that I committed the offence on the mentioned date,” he said while pleading for forgiveness from his clan elders and the family.

The suspect had appeared before Kabarnet High Court Judge Edward Muriithi on Thursday.

Prosecution counsel Esther Macharia told the court that the deceased, Wilson Kipyegon Kimetto, had been fencing the shamba when the accused confronted him.

Ms Macharia further stated that an argument arose between the two and the accused who was carrying a panga began chasing his father.

The man fell down after a short distance and when his son caught up with him, he proceeded to hack him on the head and neck, she said, adding that Kimetto died on the spot.

Lawyer for the accused pleaded for leniency saying the accused was remorseful and had voluntarily accepted to take responsibility over the death of the father.

He also asked the court to consider that the accused is a young person with a bright future and had been planning to join a college in Eldoret town to study Survey.

Justice Muriithi ordered for a pre-sentence report from the probation department on April 10 to enable him make a ruling.

He also directed that the accused be remanded at Nakuru GK prison until then.
