I Own Weston Hotel, DP William Ruto Says

Deputy President William Ruto has confirmed his ownership of the controversial Weston Hotel in Nairobi.

Mr Ruto – while appearing on Citizen TV’s The Big Question on Tuesday night – said that he owned shares in Weston Hotel but distanced it from the Langata Road Primary School land grabbing scam.

“I have interests in Weston Hotel. I own shares there,” said the DP.

“Weston Hotel has not been accused of any land grabbing at all. The person claiming to be the owner of Langata Road Primary School has a case in court already.”

He said that the hotel stood on an independent land that was bought by him and other partners – whom he did not disclose – from the Airport View Housing Limited.

The Weston Hotel was adversely mentioned in the grabbing of the Langata Road Primary School playground.

Ngilu names alleged school land grabbers

Following this grabbing and fencing of the school playground, children and activists held demonstrations bringing down the wall, an action that saw police tear-gas them causing an international condemnation.

Lands Cabinet secretary Charity Ngilu was later to name Mandip Singh Amrit, Manjit Singh Amrit, Harbans Singh Amrit and Kamal Prakash Amrit Singh as the directors of the Airport View Housing Limited which was at the centre of the school land grabbing controversy.

However, the four named Singhs – in a paid newspaper advert – said it they had been unfairly tried in the court of public opinion and asked that the legal processes initiated to verify the true owners of the contested two-acre property opposite the Wilson Airport be allowed to run their course.

The company also sought to distance itself from the tear-gassing of the school children who on protested the alleged grabbing of their playground.

On the Karen Land saga, the DP said that the court had found him clean and those behind the propaganda that he was part of a scheme to grab massive tracts of public land should be ashamed.
