I was Not Paid To Spare Waiguru, Says MP Linturi

Linturi said that contrary to the reports that he received over Ksh 100 million from the office of the Deputy President to withdraw the motion against Waiguru, the decision was reached upon consultations with legislators allied to the ruling coalition.

“It is very important that Kenyans understand that I withdrew the motion after we had discussed with my colleagues from the Jubilee Alliance,” said Linturi.

“I have never been bribed or received any money for work not done.”

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed accused Mr. Linturi of receiving Ksh 100 million from Ms Maryanne Keitany, the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy President, to lobby fellow MPs to support his withdrawal of the motion against the Devolution CS.

EACC has lost political goodwill

Ms Keitany was named in the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) report for allegedly misappropriating Ksh 200 million with Ksh 100 million being paid to MPs to shoot down the motion against Ms Waiguru.

Mr Linturi said that he was ready and willing to appear before the anti-graft detectives should he be required to do so.

“I am more than willing to face the EACC even now to explain how the decision to withdraw the impeachment motion against Waiguru was reached,” said Linturi.

However, he expressed his lack of confidence in the anti-graft body saying that the infighting within the commission has casted doubt on its ability to fight graft.

“EACC has lost confidence and has no political goodwill,” he added. “It cannot even prosecute the simplest of corruption cases.”

MPs Linturi and Mohamed were speaking while appearing on Citizen TV’s Power Breakfast interview.
