I will bring back suspended UoN students – SONU chair Babu Owino

SONU chair Babu Owino has vowed to push for revocation of the suspension of 62 students in connection to last week’s student unrest.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Babu said that the University should not be used as a correctional facility saying the students should be given a chance to carry on with their studies.

Among those suspended is Babu’s rival in the students ‘elections Mike Jacobs.

In his address, Jacobs said he was surprised by the University’s decision to suspend him and the other students and questioned the criteria used to effect the suspension.

He noted that some of the students named did not participate in the strike adding the decision was aimed at diverting attention from claims of drug peddling at the university.

Jacobs added that the suspension will not solve the key issues ailing the institution adding that he will seek legal counsel on the matter.

The riots, which disrupted transport around the University, broke out following the reelection of Babu Owino as the students’ leader, for the fourth term.

The students burnt down SONU offices and a dormitory during the protest leading to the indefinite closure of the school.
