I will not defect from ODM party- Otuoma

Funyula MP Paul Otuoma now says he will not defect from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party even after resigning as party Vice Chair.

Otuoma asked CORD leader Raila Odinga to address issues raised by ODM rebel MPs from western Kenya.

“After resigning as Vice Chair of ODM, I still remain an ordinary member of ODM. I still enjoy the privileges and benefits of an ordinary member of ODM. I still participate and contribute to ODM activities,” stated Otuoma.

Speaking at Nangina Secondary School in Busia County, Otuoma further stated that he will not accompany Raila in Busia County next week when the CORD leader tours the area in a bid to stem rebellion within the party.

“If Raila comes, he is free to visit any part of the country. The issue is not about leaving ‘Baba’, the issue is about Maisha Bora that we promised the people. Have we lost course? And if we have lost course, can we steer the ship back?” posed Otuoma.

Otuoma’s sentiments come after his Budalangi counterpart Ababu Namwamba announced plans to join a new political party after resigning as ODM Secretary General.

Odinga on Ababu’s exit

Speaking in Bondo on Friday, nominated MP Dr. Oburu Odinga said Ababu Namwamba’s exit from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) did not come as a surprise.

According to Oburu, the Budalangi MP’s exit was expected because he had functionally left the party a long time ago.

He claimed that Namwamba retained his position on the party for sinister motives: destabilising ODM from within – a mission that Oburu says was masterminded by Deputy President William Ruto.

Despite the departure of several Western Kenya Mps, Oburu went on to say that the part is going strong.

ODM has been rocked by internal party politics over the past few weeks, with top Western Kenya MPs expressing dissatisfaction with the party leadership.
