I will not disrupt your meeting unless provoked, Wa Iria to MP

Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria has refuted claims that he intends to attend Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau’s thanksgiving ceremony to cause chaos.

The Governor has said the MP has made it clear that the event is personal and that he has no intentions of attending.

He said the event, that will be held Saturday, does not concern him but warned the MP and his supporters not to use it as a forum to tarnish his name and malign his development projects.

Wa Iria, however, said should the MP start talking about him, then the event will be transformed from a thanksgiving ceremony into a political forum and he will be bound to attend to give his side of the story.

“I respect the fact that the event is his personal affair, but if my topic is introduced in the meeting, then it will be an invitation for me to attend to set the record straight,” he added.

He wondered why the MP is so afraid of him that he spreads propaganda that he wants to disrupt his functions.

He noted that he does not attend events uninvited and that he receives invitation letters same as the MP.

Addressing the media in his office in Murang’a Town Friday morning, Wa Iria said the MP has a habit of giving false information on county government projects in a bid to garner the support of locals.

He cited the example of the initiation project done last year where 2,000 young men from needy backgrounds were circumcised for free in a project sponsored by the county government.

“The MP has cooked some funny figures and has been saying that we used Ksh 75,000 per boy. Where did he get the figures from? He is not the auditor of the county projects and should get his facts right.”

He said Kamau has become an expert in lying and seeking sympathy from voters in the hope that they will vote him next year.

According to him, the MP claims projects initiated by the national government in his constituency are his giving an example of the new Kigumo Girls Secondary which became operational in 2013.

“He goes around saying that the school is his project yet we know it was a national government project through Economic Stimulus programme,” added the Governor.

Wa Iria also castigated Kamau for fighting the Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Hospital which he said has served more than 15,000 patients since it was opened in May.

“It is unfortunate that people having been coming all the way from Nairobi and Embu to access the subsidized services being offered at the facility yet some local leaders are still fighting it,” he noted.
