I will not honour EACC summons Raila

CORD leader Raila Odinga has said he will not honour summons by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) requiring him to appear before investigators on Thursday.

Raila, through his lawyers, has written to the EACC asking the commission to first conduct primary investigations into available evidence on the Eurobond files before seeking his input.

The ODM party leader has in the past week been vocal over allegations that some money from the Eurobond proceeds had been stolen.

In a letter dated December 9, 2015, Odinga’s lawyer Paul Mwangi and Co Advocates stated: “It is curious why before exhausting these capacities; the commission has found it necessary to seek our client’s help in their investigations.”

Raila further said that he will help only when the commission has failed to identify primary evidence.

“At the end of your investigations and if you will have identified where primary evidence is unavailable in matters under investigation, our client will avail to you any secondary information, materials or perspectives that may assist the commission further to fill the gaps,” the letter stated in part.

“In the light of the above, we are instructed by the Rt Hon Raila Odinga to inform you that the proposed meeting for Thursday, December 10, 2015 is presently superfluous and the invitation is hereby declined.”

This came even as Jubilee legislators dismissed Raila’s claims that Sh140 billion from the Eurobond proceeds is missing.

In a press conference by Jubilee members drawn from the National Assembly and the Senate, the legislators alleged that Raila Odinga has no evidence to present hence his reluctance to appear before the EACC.

The leaders claimed that Odinga is using the Eurobond story to divert attention and cover up the many deals signed with contractors without a budget at the end of the coalition government.

The claims have however been refuted by Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ who called on his Jubilee counterparts to allow investigative agencies to carry out investigations on the Eurobond claims.

He discouraged legislators against dismissing Raila’s claims saying his earlier dossier on the loss of Sh791 million at the National Youth Service (NYS) turned out to be true.
