ICT PS Korir sounds warning to youth in Bomet using Ajira Digital skills to engage in cybercrime

The Principal Secretary, State Department of Youth at the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Julius Korir has expressed his concerns over rising cases of Cyber Crimes in Bomet County.

Speaking at Meswondo Primary School in Konoin sub-county after presiding over the graduation of 100 youths under the Ajira Digital platform, Korir said several youths from various parts of the county have been arrested over cyber crime related offences.

Korir said two youths were arrested yesterday and were currently being held in one of the Nairobi police stations awaiting to be arraigned.

The PS appealed to the youths to desist from the crimes and instead engage in other activities which can grow the youth.

He urged them to use the knowledge which they have been equipped with to do genuine businesses.

Korir said there was a plan to place all the youth groups in the county under one umbrella for easy coordination.

He at the same time revealed that the government has dispersed 5.6B Uwezo Funds to 63,861 groups since 2014,while National Affirmative Funds Action(NGAAF) and the Youth Enterprise Development Fund have disbursed 6.5B and 12.5B respectively.

He said the funds were meant to empower young people to start their businesses which in turn employ their other colleagues.

He was accompanied by Huawei Deputy CEO and Public Affairs, Kenya, Fiona Pan among other officers from his ministry.
