Idd Ul Fitr: Chief Kadhi confirms end of Ramadhan, says moon sighted

Chief Kadhi Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar has asked Muslim faithful to celebrate Idd Ul Fitr on Friday, June 15 after confirming that the moon had been sighted.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Thursday evening, the Chief Kadhi said the  moon had been sighted in most parts of the Kenyan coast, Migori and in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

He wished all Muslim faithful Eid Mubarak as they celebrate the end of the Holy month of Ramadhan tomorrow.

On Tuesday, the government declared Friday, June 15, 2018 a public holiday to allow the Muslim community celebrate Idd Ul Fitr.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i made the announcement through a Gazette Notice published on Tuesday.

“In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, Friday, the 15th June 2018 shall be a public Holiday in order to accord all Kenyans and persons who profess the Islamic Faith the opportunity to make preparations to mark Idd-Ul-Fitr on Saturday, 16th June 2018,” he said.
