IDPs, Mau Mau War Fighters Call For Peace

Speaking in two different functions, the two groups condemned the Mpeketoni killings and called on the government to fully investigate those behind the attacks.

IDPs living in Gilgil held a peaceful demonstration and castigated CORD leader Raila Odinga for his calls on mass action.

According to one of the victims Ruth Wairimu, some statements by politicians were worrying and were polarizing the nation.

She said that many people lost their lives and suffered during the 2007-08 post election violence and the country was not yet to fully heal.

“We condemn those calling for mass action and ask them to rethink their decision as this might lead to chaos in our peaceful nation,” she said.

The sentiments were echoed by John Njoroge who questioned Raila’s visit to the US and his motive in calling for mass action.

“We have learnt through the experience in Congo, Somalia and South Sudan and we shall not allow one person to divide us on tribal lines,” he said.

The chairman Nakuru County Democracy and good governance Moses Gitonga said that they were fully behind the government.

Gitonga called on Raila to be patient and wait for his time and called on Kenyans to be peaceful and tolerate each other.

“The country has lost many people through violence and terror attack and we shall not allow more blood to be shed,” he said.

And elsewhere, the coordinator of Mau Mau fighters in Naivasha Boniface Thuo hit out at the political rhetoric by some leaders.

Thuo said that enough blood was shed during the fight for the freedom adding that calls for mass action were misplaced.

“We are deeply perturbed by the ongoing talks in the country and we are calling on the politicians to put the country first,” he said.
