IEBC announce date of Kitui West by-election
The Kitui West Constituency by-election is set to be held on March 26 following the death of MP Francis Nyenze on December 6, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced.
Through a notice in its official website, the commission, through its chairperson Wafula Chebukati said that each political party intending to participate in the by-election is expected to submit its name of persons contesting in the party primaries and the date of the party primary on or before January 10.
“Following the declaration of vacancy in the office of the member of the national assembly for the member of National Assembly for Kitui West via a letter from a speaker Gazette notice 12711 volume CXIX-no 193 dated December 27, there shall be a by-election for the Member of National Assembly for Kitui West constituency on 26th March 2018,” the notice reads.
Similarly each political party is expected to finalize the primaries and resolve all intra party disputes on or before January 19.
Candidates intending to vie as independent candidates are expected to submit their names and symbols they intend to use on or before January 6.
Nyenze, who was the Minority Leader in the 11th Parliament, died on December 6 at The Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with Colon Cancer.
