IEBC Announces By-Elections Date

The voters will be voting to pick new leaders after the nullification of the March 2013 elections.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has fixed Tuesday, 3rd June as the day for the by elections.

In Mathare, Bonchari and Nyando, voters will be electing members of the National Assembly.

The poll body says that it will also conduct mini polls in three County Assembly Wards in Misikhu (Bungoma County), Maua in Meru County and Kikombai in Tana River County.

Independent candidates have up to 15th April, 2014 to submit their symbols and clear with the Registrar of Political Parties.

Registered political parties too are required to conclude primaries by 19th April, 2014.

The electoral body also says all candidates should present their nomination papers to respective returning officers on 6th and 7th May paving way for campaigns.

IEBC will however have to wait for the outcome of the appeal filed by ousted Meru Governor Peter Munya at the Supreme Court before announcing its poll date.

This comes even as Migori Governor Okoth Obado filed an appeal at the Supreme Court earlier today, Thursday, seeking to halt his dismissal from office.
