IEBC assures information in BVR kits stolen by Al Shabaab is safe

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Thursday moved to assure Kenyans that registration data from BVR kits allegedly stolen from Mandera County by suspected Al Shabaab militants is intact.

The polls body said that the BVR kits may have been stolen but they expect no loss on registration data because of the back-up procedures.

The electoral body further indicated that the information contained in the BVR kits is encrypted and therefore not accessible to anyone other than IEBC.

This comes just hours after Al Shabaab militants attacked Arabia AP Camp in Mandera County at dawn on Thursday, making away with four IEBC BVR kits, one police Land Cruiser and three guns.

The terrorists also destroyed telecommunication masts, cutting off communication between officers and their commanders.
