IEBC begins distribution of ballot papers to counties
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) received the last consignment of 161 pallets of presidential ballot papers for the remaining 17 counties on Tuesday (August 1) at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Speaking at JKIA, IEBC deputy CEO, Marjan Hussein Marjan, said the distribution of ballot papers to all the 290 constituencies, which will be done by road or air is expected to kick off today (August 2) until August 4, in case of an overrun, the process will prolong until August 6.
However, Thirdway Alliance Presidential candidate, Ekuru Aukot has sparked controversy over printing of 1.2 million extra ballot papers terming it as a ‘recipe for a fiasco.’
To the presidential hopeful, IEBC was keen to promote the interests of the Dubai based printing firm Al-Ghurair and failed to put political interests of various parties in account.
IEBC has, however, acquitted itself from the possible outcome of an induced havoc, asserting that they are running under the assumption that, there maybe a 100 percent outcome in voter turn out and in case of a spoilt ballot paper, a voter is entitled to at least two extra papers.
