IEBC chair sues Auditor General over BVR kits purchase report

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan has sued the Auditor General over alleged negative mentions in 2014 Special Audit report on BVR kits procurement in 2013 election.

Hassan complained that despite a court order for Auditor General to have the section of report implicating him negatively in relations to purchase of the voting kits be deleted, one year after the court order no action has been taken and the said report has continuously been presented before the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly.

The IEBC chairman further complained that the respondent has not taken initiative to inform the committee members of the court order so that his (Issack) name is cleared.

The electoral body chair now wants the court to compel the auditor to table before the committee a corrected version of the report.

He also wants the court to summon the auditor to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be instituted against him for failing to comply with the court order.

High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola directed the Auditor General respond to the petition soon and present it before court on 19th July 2016 when the case will be mentioned.
