IEBC Disputes Tribunal dismisses two suits

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Disputes Resolution Committee that started sitting Monday, June 5, has dismissed a nomination dispute filed by aspirant Chapia Chapia against Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Nairobi Senatorial candidate, Edwin Sifuna.

The Committee has also dismissed a complaint by former Rangwe Member of Parliament, Shem Ochuodho, who claimed his bid to become Homa Bay Senator was rejected because he delayed in paying nomination fees.

Ochuodho said he was misled by IEBC communications on the date for presenting nomination papers and found himself going to the bank when it was already closed.

According to IEBC, the law allows the commission to hear and determine complaints over rejection of candidates and can order returning officers to clear them outside gazetted timelines.
