IEBC fires Procurement Director over ballot papers sourcing

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has fired its Procurement Director, Mr. Lawy Aura, over allegations of incompetence and delayed ballot papers sourcing process.

Through its official twitter handle, the electoral body announced that it relieved Mr. Aura of his duties alleging that he is the sole reason behind the delayed sourcing of ballot papers to be used during the August 8 General Election.

The ballot papers procurement has been a centre of contention with many court cases being filed amid uncertainty over which company should be awarded the tender.

The sacking of the procurement officer comes barely two weeks after the Wafula Chebukati-led commission suspended its ICT Director, James Muhati, after concerns over the reliability of the electronic system that the commission intends to us in conducting the August polls.

The commission accused James Muhati of refusing to cooperate in an ongoing audit of ICT systems.
