IEBC, NCIC probing politicians over alleged incitement

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) are investigating several  politicians for alleged hate speech and incitement on the campaign trail.

NCIC Assistant Director Liban Guyo said that more than 116 officers have been deployed countrywide to monitor politicians suspected to be engaged in hate speech a involved in hate speeach.

Mr Guyo said that the officers who have been equipped with recorders.

In addition, Mr Guyo said the Cohesion commission has engaged social media experts to nab individuals spreading hatred online.

Embu County Returning officer Daniel Larum told Citizen Digital that the Francis ole Kaparo-led commission is probing politicians in Embu County who are allegedly spreading hatred in political rallies.

Mr Larum warned that any politician who will violate the electoral code of conduct will face the law.

The Political Parties Liaison Coordinator Sunday Oyolo said that 67 political parties have been working in collaboration with the two commissions to ensure that peace prevails  during the August 8 General Elections.

Mr Oyolo said that counties including Embu, Narok, Busia, Isiolo, Nyamira, Nakuru, Lakipia and Kisumu which have been listed as hot spots are being monitored closely.

The three were speaking in Embu where they met candidates vying for various positions.
