IEBC Select Panel gets new chair as it holds first meeting

Bernadette Musundi has been elected the chairperson of the nine-member Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel.

The maiden meeting of the select committee also saw Abdulghafur AlBusaidy, who represents the Muslim community, elected as the Vice Chair.

Speaking after the announcement, Musundi said that the panel would start work immediately promising to submit 11 names to the President that will be above board.

On his part, AlBusaidywho promised to do the best in their power to give Kenyans the best commissioners.

The select panel is mandated to select two people for the position of chairman and nine people qualified to be appointed as members of the Commission.

The panel will then forward the names to the President for nomination of one person for appointment as the chairperson and six others for appointment as Commissioners of the electoral body.
