IEBC set to hold three by-elections on November 7

The electoral commission is next week Tuesday (November 7) set to hold three by-elections in regions where candidates died in the run-up to the August 8 General Election.

IEBC is expected to hold elections for the Kitutu Chache South parliamentary seat, Masalani Ward seat in Garissa county and Bogichora Ward in Nyamira.

The Kitutu Chache South parliamentary elections did not take place following the death of the Jubilee Party candidate for the seat, Leonard Mwamba, who died in a car accident on July 14.

Two other people, including a schoolboy, died in the accident that occurred at Nyakoe area on Kisii-Kisumu road.

Similarly, the Jubilee Party candidate for Masalani ward in Garissa County, Ibrahim Abdullahi Muktar, died on July 5, in a road accident.

In Bogichora Ward, Nyamira, the poll was equally postponed following the death of Mr John Onsumu Okebiro who was vying on a Jubilee Party ticket. He died four days to the August 8 elections after a short illness.

In a gazette notice issued on September 1, 2017, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati had directed that official campaigns for the by-election take place from September 7 to November 5.
