IEBC to move offices from Nairobi city centre

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is planning to relocate offices from the Nairobi central business district.

According to Chairman Wafula Chebukati, the move will prevent any loss of property in the event of picketing.

“We will train our staffs for the next general election and come up with storage mechanism for documentation,” he said.

Chebukati also revealed that the IEBC Board will be restructured and there will be public vetting of all staff to ensure accountability.

He was speaking during the opening a two-day workshop on Post Election Evaluation in Mombasa on Thursday.

Last year, the National Super Alliance (NASA) held demonstrations outside the IEBC offices claiming that the elections were neither free nor fair.

Led by NASA leader Raila Odinga, supporters took to the streets bringing business to a standstill for several days.

Those who work in the CBD were unable to gain access to their offices and police and protesters engaged in running battles.
