Kenyans on Twitter have expressed their disgust over how teenagers are taking nude pictures of themselves and sharing them on social media.
Over the past two days, the Twitter hashtag #IfikieWazazi has dominated online conversations with the intent of making parents aware of what is going on behind their backs.
Some Twitter users expressed shock and dismay wondering whether it is the teens to blame for the moral decadence or their parents.
Others pointed fingers at the prevalence of social media use that is top priority for millenials of today.
Harrison Mumia said: “So we have teens who have decided to … well … Take photos. There are moral questions that we need to ask. To the parents who insist that children must attend Sunday school/ Madras, go to church to learn religious morality, how do kids they still end up here? #IfikieWazazi”
Arthur Mandela, popularly known as Xtian Dela blasted the teenagers for destroying gains made with the Nairobi County Government in letting photographs operate freely.
“We really fought hard for @MikeSonko to waiver the fee for Photography in the CBD. These kids are messing us up. Photography and Videography should be limited to people above 18 years!! Kids can’t mess up what we fought hard for!!” he said.
He added: “Am I the only one waiting to hear what Ezekiel Mutua has to say about #IfikieWazazi?”
Moral policeman Ezekiel Mutua of the Kenya Film and Classification Board has since said he is seeking intervention from State House on the matter.
One social media user urged Twitter to shut down accounts of people sharing the photos.
“All the accounts showing the freaky photos should be summed up and reported to be pulled down. That’s where we can start before we start with some celebs that need a talk then the kids. Bana, we need to be role models not leaders of a rotten Society #IfikieWazazi”
