IG Boinnet, DCI boss fail to appear in court with Miguna

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti have once again defied a court order requiring them to appear in court in person on Tuesday morning.

High Court Judge Luka Kimaru had on Monday ordered Boinnet and Kinoti to appear in court along with politician Miguna Miguna, who has been in police custody since Friday, February 2.

The two police bosses however sent Assistant Inspector Stanley Cheruiyot and Amos Omuga from the DCI to represent them, with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions explaining that Boinnet and Kinoti were attending a national security meeting.

Miguna’s lawyers protested the no-show by Boinnet and his DCI counterpart, demanding to know whether their client is alive.

In a rejoinder, however, the DPP’s office explained that Miguna is alive and had been arraigned in a Kajiado Court today morning.

On Monday, Justice Kimaru said Boinnet and Kinoti were in contempt of court after disobeying a previous order to produce the self-proclaimed NRM General Miguna Miguna in court on Monday afternoon.

The prosecution stated that despite serving IG and DCI boss with the court orders, the two had failed to produce Miguna in court. The two were required to show cause why they should not be cited for contempt for failing to comply with orders issued on Friday for the release of Miguna.
