IG Boinnet, DCI ordered to personally appear in court with Miguna
High Court Judge Luka Kimaru has ordered the Inspector General of Police and Director of Criminal Investigations to personally appear in court on Tuesday morning to explain their failure to produce self-proclaimed NRM General Miguna Miguna in court.
Justice Kimaru said IG Joseph Boinett and DCI boss George Kinoti were in contempt of court after disobeying a previous order to produce the controversial former Nairobi Gubernatorial aspirant in court on Monday afternoon.
The prosecution stated that despite serving IG Boinett and DCI Kinoti with the court orders, the two had failed to produce Miguna in court.
Justice Kimaru had on Monday morning summoned the IG and DCI to appear in court at 2 pm to show cause why they should not be cited for contempt for failing to comply with orders issued on Friday for the release of Miguna.
The lawyer for the Director of Public Prosecutions, Peter Malinyani told the court that they were not aware of Miguna’s whereabouts.
Miguna has been in police custody since Friday, February 2 when police raided his home in Runda and took him away.
His lawyers had earlier claimed that he had fallen ill while in custody, but could not be allowed to deliver medicine to him.
