IGAD To Fete Kibaki With Medal

The former president will receive the medal from Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Kibaki will also receive a 50-page pictorial book showcasing his legacy and the period he served as the chairman of the regional organization between 2006 and 2008.

The medal and the book demonstrate the gratitude of the people and government of IGAD Member States.

“We would like to appreciate the critical role that the former president has played and recognize his contribution to the stability and prosperity of the region,” IGAD Executive Secretary, Ambassador Mahboub Maalim said.

Some of the notable events attributed to the Kibaki include the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement for Sudan that led to the independence of South Sudan.

Kibaki also launched the Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor expected to enhance regional trade and economic cooperation.

The presentation today also coincides with the first anniversary of the day when he handed over the presidency to Uhuru Kenyatta.
